GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
Geothermal energy is thermal energy which is generated and stored within the Earth. It is a kind of nuclear energy where the earth’s core is the nuclear reactor itself. 0,1 percent of Earth’s total heat content could meet our total global energy needs for 2 million years. Geothermal Power Plants are more sustainable and environmental friendly way of reaching energy. Geothermal energy produces 0.03% of the emissions that coal produces and 0.05% of the emissions that natural gas produces.
Geothermal energy now attracts awareness more than before through its capacity while produces very low levels of greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions and almost no negative effects on the environment.
Geothermal energy has many advantages in comparison with the other renewable energy types namely, high efficiency, great stability, weather-proof and base-load production abilities, less land requirement and less ecological effect.
Countries, with enough geothermal resources and production capacity, have already recognized the importance and already started introducing favorable regulatory environment to further support and boost geothermal energy.
Key Attributes & Advantages of Geothermal Energy:
-
Renewable: Through proper reservoir management, the rate of energy extraction can be balanced with reservoir's natural heat recharge rate.
-
Reliable: Geothermal power can provide consistent electricity throughout the day and year - continuous and flexible power.
-
Baseload: Geothermal power plants produce electricity consistently, running 24 hours per day / 7 days per week, regardless of weather conditions.
-
Self-sufficient: Geothermal resources can be harnessed for power production for the lucky countries without depending on 3rd countries for energy resources.
-
Clean: Modern closed-loop geothermal power plants emit no greenhouse gasses; life cycle GHG emissions (50 g CO2 eq/kWhe) are four times lower than solar PV. Geothermal power plants consume less water on average over the lifetime energy output than the most conventional generation technologies.
-
Low Cost: Geothermal energy has the lowest leveled cost of electricity within all renewable energy sources.
-
Highest Capacity Factor: Geothermal Energy has the highest capacity factor of all renewable energy sources.
